特殊教育プログラム

Music as a gateway to self-expression.

Our Special Education Program.

Many children have some special support needs as they grow up. I strongly believe that the earlier we understand and support their individual needs, the more we can open the door to their potential. It is evident by the fact that many of the people who are considered as geniuses in the world actually had some sort of challenges as children or as adults, but they were able to discover their talents and challenges early on and deal with them.

In the U.S., there has long been a concept of tailoring education to the needs of the individual, and various efforts have been made to achieve this. In Japan on the other hand, our education system has been focusing on education that emphasizes cooperation skills for many years, and as a result, we have not been able to adequately respond to the needs of each individual child, especially during the critical years of childhood.

The goal of STUDIO MOTIF's special education program is to support children's challenges and to open the door to their potential.

Improving Non-cognitive Skills Through Music.

At STUDIO MOTIF, we aim to improve non-cognitive abilities through music and special education.

In contrast to cognitive abilities that can be quantified, such as IQ and school tests, non-cognitive abilities are abilities in areas that are difficult to quantify, such as invisible emotions and the workings of the mind. Among many non-cognitive skills, we focus on five emotional skills. These five are very important in child's social-emotional development, and are the core essence of how children develop relationships with others through understanding, experiencing, and expressing emotions. The development of these emotional skills is has become increasingly important in recent years in SEAL/SEL education, an educational philosophy based in Britain and United States.

At STUDIO MOTIF, we strive to create lesson plans and environments based on this SEAL education philosophy.
